02-22-2013
On February 20th, Professor Peter Hollenbeck delivered a research talk in the Samuel Colella Lecture Series in Neurodegeneration at the Institute for Neurodegenerative Diseases of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
The talk, entitled "Mitochondrial Transport, Metabolism and ROS Production in Disease Models," covered studies from the Hollenbeck laboratory on the etiology of Friedreich ataxia and Parkinson's disease. The work implicates defects in axonal transport, metabolism and mitochondrial turnover in the death of neurons.
