Irwin and Ethyl Tessman Scholarship
Irwin and Ethel supported and nurtured independent and critical scientific thinking. They encouraged and taught their students to ask vital and probing questions and always suggested novel experimental approaches in order to provide meaningful quantifiable results. In addition, they were unbiased, fair, and compassionate.
The Irwin and Ethel Tessman Scholarship honors an admirable couple and provides the financial resources to recognize the hard work and accomplishments of Purdue students within the Department of Biological Sciences. The Irwin and Ethel Tessman Scholarship will be awarded to two undergraduate biological science majors each year for ten years. The criteria are flexible, giving the Department the ability to recruit or retain top students.
