This course introduces the core concepts in developmental biology. The emphasis is on the early development of a fertilized egg, how it lays down the basic body plan and generates different major organs. The core concepts will be introduced through examples from various vertebrate and invertebrate models, including fly, sea urchins, planarian, axolotl, frog, zebrafish, bird, mouse and human. The course will also show students how to apply the core concepts to think critically about practical subjects including medicine, stem cells, regeneration, and evolution. Typically offered Spring.
