Jason Hanna, Ph.D.

Dr. Hanna is from Indiana and completed his undergraduate studies at Purdue University, earning a B.S. in Molecular Biology. He went on to complete his Ph.D. in Experimental Pathology at Yale University. He became a Postdoctoral Associate at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. In 2019, he founded the Hanna Lab at Purdue University, his alma mater. In Dr. Hanna's free time, he enjoys snowboarding and playing soccer.

Tripti is originally from India but has lived in West Lafayette since 1997. She completed her B.S. from the University of Calcutta. She has been working at Purdue as a Lab Technician since 2004. She joined the Hanna lab in August 2022. She loves to spend time with her two daughters. She has a big passion for cooking. In Tripti’s free time she enjoys traveling, doing sudoku, and spending time with her family. She loves meeting new people and being involved in the community, especially the Intentional Friendship Program and also the Bengali community to continue the cultures & traditions she grew up with.
Ant Murphy

Ant is from the island North Haven, Maine. He earned his BS in Biochemistry at Northeastern University in 2017 before spending 3 years as a Research Associate in the Cancer Cell Line Factory at The Broad Institute. Ant’s project includes investigating miRNA dysregulation in rare vascular cancers. When not in the lab, he enjoys cooking and hanging out with his axolotl, Edwin.

Nimod Janson

Nimod is from Sri Lanka. He graduated in Biochemistry & Molecular Biology from Colombo University, Sri Lanka, and obtained his master's degree at Jeju National University, South Korea. Nimod joined the lab in May 2021. His current studies are focused on identifying novel therapeutic targets in angiosarcoma. Nimod enjoys playing sports, including Hockey, Cricket, and Rugby. He also loves to go on hikes, camping, and play outdoor games in his free time.

Annaleigh Powell-Benton

Annaleigh is from Matthews, NC, and received a Bachelor's degree from the University of North Carolina in Biology in 2018. She joined the lab in May 2020 and is currently working on a project elucidating the role of microRNAs in tumor and metastasis suppression in angiosarcoma. She intends to pursue a career in teaching post-graduation. When she isn't in lab, Annaleigh enjoys mini-golfing, video games, and reading. Annaleigh also enjoys hanging out with her two cats: Carnivore and Xena.

Basilia is from China. She finished her bachelor’s degree in Laboratory Science at Dalian Medical University and her master’s degree in Internal Medicine at Capital University in China. After having a gap year, she was admitted by the Ph.D. Program at Purdue. She joined the lab in 2022. When not in the lab, she enjoys working out, hiking, and traveling.

Sam is from Lafayette, Indiana. He is currently majoring in microbiology with a minor in wildlife at Purdue university and is planning to graduate May 2023. Sam joined the lab in the 2020 spring semester.  He is currently working on a project with vascular tumors and miRNAs with graduate student, Ant Murphy. In his spare time, he plays bass trombone in Purdue bands & orchestras, observes birds for the eBird citizen science project, and photographs insects to explore their biodiversity in the Indiana area.

Mae is from Carmel, Indiana. She is majoring in biology with a minor in management and planning to graduate in May 2023. Mae joined the lab in January of 2022 and is excited to continue working with her mentor, Annaleigh Benton, in studying microRNA's role in tumor and metastasis suppression. In her spare time, Mae enjoys drawing, singing, and reading.

Elise is from Zionsville, Indiana. She is majoring in genetics with minors in Spanish and psychology at Purdue University and is planning to graduate in the spring of 2024. Elise joined the lab during the summer of 2022 and is working with graduate student, Nimod Janson, identifying novel therapeutic targets in angiosarcoma. She intends to pursue a master’s degree in genetic counseling after graduating from Purdue. In her free time, she enjoys cooking, reading, and hiking.

Jill is from St. Charles, Illinois. She is majoring in genetics on a pre-medicine track with a minor in Spanish at Purdue and is planning on graduating in May of 2024. Jill joined the lab during the summer of 2022, initially working on a bioinformatics project. In fall 2022, she began working with graduate student, Basilia Liu, in finding the key genetic drivers of angiosarcoma development and metastasis. In her spare time, Jill likes to play the violin, spend time with her friends (and her dog, Benji), and go to the gym.

From Zionsville, IN, Madison is pursuing bachelor’s degrees in Cell, Molecular and Developmental Biology, Genetics and French at Purdue University. She joined the lab in the summer of 2022 and is planning to graduate in December of 2024. Working with Ph.D. candidate, Ant Murphy, Madison is studying the regulatory molecules involved in microRNA biogenesis and their relationship to angiosarcomas. In her spare time, she enjoys cleaning, speaking French and listening to history and true crime podcasts.
