Congratulations are in order for undergraduate student Ryan Madden! Ryan has been awarded two fellowships that will allow him to travel to Iriomote Island, Japan, this summer. Ryan is the recipient of the McAtee Scholarship from the Biology Department (Purdue University) and a grant from Purdue's Learning Beyond the Classroom program. These will both help fund Ryan's travel and living expenses as he conducts his field work as he travels with graduate student Henry Legett to investigate female choice and male calling strategies in the Japanese frog Buergeria japonica.

The McAtee scholarship is a fund originally provided by Mary Frances McAtee. This scholarship is intended to help undergraduates receive research experiences in ecology with emphasis on international experiences.

Purdue's Learning Beyond the Classroom Program supports and funds undergraduates in programs that encourage professional development, service, citizenship and leadership, and diversity appreciation.
