Resources: Setting the Auto-responder for e-mail

You likely have (and use) one of two "types" of email accounts: a "purdue.edu" or a "bilbo.bio.purdue.edu" account (with or without using the forwarding service within the Purdue mail system). Follow the instructions for the email account you want to set an auto-responder.

Auto-response for a Purdue e-mail account

Open a web browser and go to: http://www.itap.purdue.edu/directory/. You will go to the Directory page. Type in your name. On the right side you will see Quick Links. Look down that list and click on Edit Personal Directory Entry.

iTAP Directory screen

The next screen will be your personal information. Scroll to the bottom and see the 3 items listed on the left side.

Click on Auto-responder.
This screen tells you if the responder is turned on or off. You can change the message in the box in the middle of the screen to reflect the current situation. To turn the responder on or off, scroll to the bottom of the screen and click on the button. Remember to go through the steps again to turn off the auto-responder when you return.

* Please Note: If you have a Purdue e-mail address and you have it forwarded to your bilbo account then you will not see Auto-response link.
