Lilly Hall of Life Sciences
Our main life sciences building, 5 floors of 4
corridors each packed with research and teaching labs,
classroom spaces, meeting rooms, and administrative offices.
On instruments and facilities. Please help correct a mistake I left in
Under Electron Microscpy, it just tails off after FEG. Please replace FEG
ith (again) Field Emission Gun and put the "and" between the two types of
instruments, instead of after FEG.
Electron Microscopy Suite
Highlighted by the new Keck 300kv Field Emission Gun and a 200kv Field Emission Gun.
Several research and technical staff support the microscopes, handling maintenance and upgrades.
Computing
The Markey Center includes a computer lab, supplementing many
individual lab resources, including intermediate and powerful PCs,
Macs, Sun and SGI workstations, and more. Several staff provide advanced
security, reliable network connectivity, and both hardware and software support.
There is also a computer resource center available to students seeking assistance with presentation.
Animal Care and Transgenic Mouse Facility
The TMCF is located in the basement of the Hansen Life Sciences building and
contains state of the art microinjection and cell culture facilities.
In addition, the core has tissue sectioning equipment for histological analysis of
embryos. Within the TMCF there is a fully functional barrier containment facility
where all the animals are housed. All food and bedding are autoclaved and mice are
housed in microisolator cages which are changed under laminar flow hoods. Access to
this part of the TMCF is highly restricted and all personnel entering the barrier
must wear full surgical gear.
Scientific Illustration Office
Equipped to assist with publications, slides, presentations, class notes,
posters, web pages, custom CDs, display work, and more, with a full-time professional on staff.
Fabrication and Facility Maintenance
The Department of Biological Science maintains its own maintenance crew, equipped for light
fabrication as well. When something needs doing, there's no waiting on a
central office. The department even maintains a cabinet maker.
Administrative Support, Counseling, & Career Assistance
Professional staff and secretarial pools provide support for day-to-day financial,
administrative, and event coordination needs, and much more. Counselors and a
staffed Graduate Office in the Department of Biological Sciences are there to
assist students with questions, provide course advising, or furnish career information and placement support.
Hansen Hall
Purdue University's Walther Cancer Center is home to a host of researchers.
Lyn Hall
Across the parking lot from Lilly Hall of Life Science, its the home of both
Purdue Basic Medical Sciences and our Veterinary School. Equipped
with top-notch seminar space with advanced audiovisual capability,
