B.S. Biochemistry and Molecular Biology 1996, Purdue

"A well-rounded person is highly desired in today's business climate. Challenge yourself at every opportunity. The confidence you gain will last a lifetime."

Carolyn Hyde currently makes her home in Augusta, Georgia. While a student at Purdue, she was the recipient of the Alumni Scholarship and an Honor Degree. Outside of her studies, she kept busy as a member of the Science Student Council, as well as with serving as a tutor, reader, and notetaker for students with disabilities.

Carolyn feels her degree from Purdue allowed her to develop skills it has given her "the strength to rely on myself and my decisions". Her degree in biology, along with these skills, enabled her to gain employment as a Quality Control/Analytical Chemist at Summit Industries, a small pharmaceutical manufacturing plant.

While her husband is currently working toward a license to be a supervisor in operations at a nuclear power plant, Carolyn's career path has taken a different direction. Moving away from the science field, Carolyn now devotes her time and energy to charity through working as a volunteer at St. Vincent DePaul Clinic, a facility established to help the homeless and uninsured. Carolyn believes that the skills she developed at Purdue have not only proven useful in her professional life, but in the personal and spiritual aspects of her life, as well.

She encourages undergraduates to explore areas outside of their major field. "Take as many classes outside your regular course selections as you can possibly do," Carolyn advises. "A well-rounded person is highly desired in today's business climate. Challenge yourself at every opportunity. The confidence you gain will last a lifetime."
