Faculty Position for a Microbiologist in Biofuels Research
The Department of Biological Sciences, Purdue University, invites applicants for a tenure-track faculty position in microbiology to engage in biofuels research. Potential areas of research interests include microbial production of ethanol, butanol, methane, H2, or other alternative energy sources, anaerobic metabolism, genetic manipulation of anaerobes, and degradation of lignocellulosics. We seek candidates who conduct laboratory research using the most recent advances in systems approaches, such as metabolomics, proteomics, and bioinformatics. Applicants must have a Ph.D. or equivalent in an appropriate discipline and at least 2 years of postdoctoral experience. We expect to fill academic year appointments at the Assistant Professor level, but appointments at a higher rank will be considered.
The Department has over 50 faculty members conducting research in a wide range of fields including microbiology, structural biology, bioinformatics, evolutionary biology, and ecology. The successful candidate will have opportunities to interact with microbiologists at the University, including colleagues in Chemical Engineering and the Discovery Park Energy Center. Instrumentation for systems level analyses and biological image analysis is available at the Bindley Bioscience Center and Birck Nanotechnology Center. Purdue University is expanding Life Sciences research with new facilities in the Jischke Hall of Biomedical Engineering and the Hockmeyer Hall of Structural Biology. In addition, as part of its strategic plan, the College of Science at Purdue is hiring faculty in several related interdisciplinary areas (http://www.science.purdue.edu/hiring/) including a position with focus on climate change.
Applications must be submitted electronically and should include a detailed curriculum vitae, the names and addresses of three referees, a 2-3 page summary of research interests and a one-page teaching statement.
