My responsibilities at Purdue primarily revolve around undergraduate education. I teach an introductory Biology course with two parts, each taking one semester. The course is designed for life science student who are not biology majors, and at Purdue that includes mostly pre-Pharmacy, pre-Nursing, Agronomy, Animal Science, and some pre-Med students. I teach a rigorous course and aside from topics like cell biology, genetics, ecology, and evolution, hope to teach my students to be able to analyze, solve problems, and apply their newfound knowledge.
Education
MSc, Brigham Young University, 2000
PhD, University of Canterbury, 2005
Professional Faculty Research
Besides my busy teaching schedule, I manage to remain active in research through collaborations with other faculty members. My research interests are in molecular genetics and genomics, and I have primarily studied genes of the immune system. However, recent research has led to the study of the genetics of human parasites, focusing on protease sequences and microRNAs of Schistosome parasites.
