... is a Monte Carlo simulation written to assess whether interpopulation dispersal rate might be inferred using a recently-described genetic "assignment test" (Waser and Strobeck 1998). The method assigns individuals to putative source populations based on their "assignment indices", defined as the expected frequencies of their genotypes in those populations. Individuals whose genotypes are more likely in populations other than the one they are found in are said to be "misassigned". Some such individuals are immigrants, "misassigned" to the population that they emigrated from.
